← IraVoice for Mac

Free private benchmark

Test your dictation speed without giving this site your microphone.

Read one fixed passage into the dictation tool you already use, finish the test, and get raw words per minute, word accuracy, and accuracy-adjusted WPM. Run the same passage by keyboard to compare your own typing baseline.

One passage · two modes

Measure speed and accuracy together.

Ready0.0s

Start the test, invoke the speech-to-text tool you want to measure, and read the reference passage into the field.

What the dictation speed test measures

The timer measures how quickly words reach the field, not only how fast you speak. That includes recognition delay, your start and stop habit, and any pause before finishing.

The word score compares normalized word tokens with the fixed reference passage. Insertions, deletions, and substitutions each count as one edit. Capitalization and punctuation are excluded so the score stays focused on recognized words.

How to compare tools fairly

Keep the Mac, microphone, room, passage, language, and distance from the microphone the same. Run several attempts per tool and compare the middle result rather than the single fastest score.

A short passage cannot prove universal accuracy. Names, technical vocabulary, accents, long-form fatigue, field insertion, and network conditions can change real-world performance.

  • Use the same reference passage and hardware.
  • Do not correct one tool and leave another uncorrected.
  • Record at least three attempts under the same conditions.
  • Judge the workflow you actually use, not only one score.

Why this page does not open your microphone

Browser speech APIs can introduce another speech engine and another processing boundary. That would test the browser rather than the Mac dictation product you meant to evaluate.

IraVoice therefore leaves microphone capture to your chosen tool. The test receives only the temporary text you place in the field, calculates the result locally in the page, and discards it when you reload or close the tab.

Questions

How to read the result honestly.

How does the dictation speed test work?

Choose Dictation, start the timer, use your preferred speech-to-text tool in the test field, and finish when the passage is complete. The browser compares the resulting words with the fixed reference passage and calculates raw WPM, word accuracy, and accuracy-adjusted WPM.

Does IraVoice receive my microphone audio or transcript?

No. This page does not request microphone permission or capture audio. The text remains in temporary page memory in your browser and is not submitted to IraVoice. The website still records the same cookie-free aggregate page request described in the privacy policy.

What is accuracy-adjusted WPM?

Accuracy-adjusted WPM multiplies raw transcript WPM by the word-accuracy percentage. It prevents a fast but incorrect transcript from receiving the same practical score as a fast accurate result.

Can I compare dictation with my typing speed?

Yes. Complete one attempt in Dictation mode and one in Typing mode with the same reference passage. The comparison uses accuracy-adjusted WPM so both attempts are judged by the same words and error method.

Is this a benchmark of every dictation app?

No. It measures one user, device, microphone, passage, environment, and attempt. Repeat several trials under the same conditions before drawing a conclusion, and do not treat the result as a universal product ranking.
