Local speech to text for Mac

Offline speech to text that stays on your Mac.

IraVoice is a local, on-device dictation app for Apple-silicon Macs. Hold Right Option, speak naturally, and release to place polished text into the focused editable field. The active Dictate path processes microphone audio and supported formatting on your Mac instead of sending either to a cloud transcription service.

Offline use
Trial after model setup; paid after one key check

The speech model downloads on first use. The trial clock begins only after the first completed voice action, and the 3-day trial can then run offline. Continued paid use needs one Gumroad license-key check; the result is cached locally. Gumroad does not receive microphone audio or dictated text. An optional direct agent handoff is connected and sends only the finished specification.

Offline, defined precisely

Local speech recognition with every connection named.

Local describes where recognition runs. Offline describes whether Dictate needs a connection after its prerequisites are complete. IraVoice discloses the model download, one-time paid-license check, and separate opt-in agent handoff instead of hiding them behind an absolute claim.

01 · Offline trial

Download the model once, then dictate without a connection.

The full 3-day trial is tracked locally and does not require license activation. Its clock starts only after the first completed voice action, so setup and attempts that deliver no usable text do not consume it. After speech-model setup, Dictate can run offline.

02 · Local processing

Your microphone audio is processed on-device.

Recognition and supported formatting run on your Apple-silicon Mac. IraVoice has no cloud transcript account, meeting archive, or server that receives your microphone audio.

03 · One paid check

Paid use is verified once, not during every dictation.

Gumroad receives the license key when you activate a purchase. IraVoice caches the successful check locally, so licensed Dictate use works offline afterward.

How it works

From voice to text in one held key.

There is no account, cloud dashboard, or transcript inbox to manage.

  1. 1

    Focus an editable field

Place your cursor in the email, document, note, browser field, or supported editor where the text should go.

  2. 2

    Hold Right Option and speak

Talk naturally. IraVoice listens only while you hold the shortcut.

  3. 3

    Release to insert

The local result is punctuated and placed at the cursor. Review it, then keep working.

Questions

Offline speech to text, without vague promises.

Does IraVoice work without an internet connection?

Yes. After the speech model has downloaded, the full 3-day trial can run offline. If you buy IraVoice, Gumroad checks the license key once and licensed Dictate use works offline afterward. Optional direct Codex or Claude Code handoff still needs that service.

Is local speech to text the same as offline dictation?

Not exactly. Local describes where speech recognition runs: on your Mac. Offline means the active Dictate workflow does not need a connection after its prerequisites are complete. A local app can still need a first-use model download, a one-time license check, or an optional connected feature.

Does “on-device” mean IraVoice never connects to the internet?

No. The speech model downloads on first use, a paid license key is checked once with Gumroad, and an optional direct agent handoff sends the finished specification to the selected agent. Microphone audio and dictated text are not part of the model-download or license-check requests.

Does IraVoice upload my audio or transcript?

IraVoice has no server that receives your microphone audio, transcripts, selected text, vocabulary, or repository context. If you explicitly choose direct Codex or Claude Code delivery, the finished specification—not the audio—is submitted to that agent under its service terms.

Can IraVoice transcribe saved audio files offline?

No. IraVoice is held-key, live speech to text for focused editable fields. It is not a saved-audio transcription tool, meeting recorder, or batch media transcriber.

How does this compare with Google AI Edge Eloquent?

Google’s reviewed June 3, 2026 Mac launch sources also describe an on-device, fully offline desktop app, but with a broader shape: customizable hotkey dictation across apps, Voice Edit, and local audio or video file transcription. IraVoice stays narrower: two fixed held-key workflows, no saved-file transcription, a no-account trial, and a separate review-first Voice-to-Spec path.

Which Macs can run IraVoice?

0.7.6 requires an Apple-silicon Mac running macOS 26 or later.

Will dictation insert text in every Mac app?

IraVoice inserts into focused editable text fields exposed through macOS Accessibility. Some custom or protected app surfaces may limit insertion.
