What is dictation for coding?
Dictation for coding is speech-to-text used for the language around software work: AI-agent prompts, technical requirements, issue descriptions, documentation, comments, review notes, and commit messages. It is different from controlling an IDE by voice or speaking source-code syntax line by line.
Can I use speech to text for vibe coding?
Yes. Voice-to-Spec is designed for long natural-language instructions to coding agents. Speak the goal, constraints, edge cases, and acceptance criteria, review the resulting Markdown, then paste it or explicitly use a guarded Codex or Claude Code destination.
Should I dictate raw source code?
Usually not with a general-purpose dictation workflow. Source code depends on exact punctuation, indentation, symbols, and identifiers. IraVoice is a better fit for requirements, prompts, comments, documentation, and review notes; let the editor or coding agent produce and validate the code.
Does IraVoice write or execute code?
IraVoice does not write or execute code itself. Voice-to-Spec creates the Markdown. By default it inserts or copies that text for review; an optional direct destination can launch a visible Codex or Claude Code Terminal session and submit a guard-accepted specification. The agent then works under its normal account and permission system.
Can I dictate directly into a terminal or editor?
Dictate inserts text into focused editable fields exposed through macOS Accessibility. Some custom terminal or editor surfaces may limit insertion; the Markdown can also be copied and pasted.
Is my repository context uploaded?
No. Optional repository context used by IraVoice stays on your Mac and is not sent to IraVoice servers.
Can I use the same app for email and coding prompts?
Yes. Right Option handles polished everyday dictation, while Globe turns a technical thought into an agent-ready brief.
Can I install IraVoice with Homebrew?
Yes. Run brew install --cask mvplab-ai/tap/iravoice. The official public tap installs the same checksum-verified, Developer ID signed, Apple-notarized release as the direct download and runs no custom installer or post-install script.
What happens if direct agent handoff is not safe?
IraVoice fails closed. If the prompt used a lossless fallback, the repository is uncertain, the CLI is unavailable, focus changes, or the agent shows a trust or sign-in screen, the specification is copied for review instead of being submitted.
